About Me
Welcome to Kay McLane Design and Peace Full Home! I'm happy that you've stopped by. I live in Emmaus, Pennsylvania with my husband, Larry, in a beautiful area where we see deer in our yard and have enough space to plante a vegetable garden. Our daughters, Sara and Erin, are both back in "The Valley" having lived as far away as London, England and Portland, Oregon, and we realize how fortunate we are that they live so close. Our beloved grandchildren, Lauren and Ethan, add so much to our lives. We are incredibly blessed to be able to spend a lot of time together as a family. Sunday night dinner is something we do whenever possible—sometimes it's a really impressive meal made by Larry or one of the girls, and sometimes it's burgers on the grill. We have an "all are welcome" philosophy and typically have guests for every holiday meal!
The Peace Full Adventure
Five years ago, I was sitting on the deck on a beautiful Saturday morning in October. It was my quiet time with God and I heard the words "peaceful home". Believing in Divine inspiration I decided (in spite of my skepticism) to see if anyone owned the domain peacefulhome.com. Of course, someone did, so, I just let it go. The next day, after church, I was outside and, again, heard "peace full home" and thought, "okay, God, I'm sure peacefullhome.com also belongs to someone, but I'll check anyway." I walked to my desk, typed it in and (well, I'm sure you're able to guess the outcome) no one owned the name! That confirmation (or should we call it a very significant nudge) led me to where I am right now. Peace Full Home is what I believe I'm supposed to do with the time I have left.
What started as personal writing has become my passion, and the focus of a large, and very important, part of my life. Peace Full Home/intentional living is not simply the name of a blog—it's the way I feel we should live. Wouldn't each day be just a bit better if we were able to reframe some of "the stuff of this world" and look at it through a different lens? Couldn't we all use a little more peace? Walk with me as we discuss topics that are sometimes serious and sometimes lighthearted, but always encouraging us think about, and create, intentional living. There's so much going on in our lives that we often lose sight of what's really important—creating a peace-filled life and being "present in the moment".
My personal goal is to walk through this life with joy and grace, and I believe in a "less is more" philosophy. In addition to being a mother, grandmother and wife, I'm a writer, blogger, teacher, designer, chronic organizer, tree hugger and book lover. And, I'm honored to be a child of God. Through peacefullhome.com I hope to share insight or information that helps bring joy into your life. I look forward to sharing a journey that lifts you up, energizes you, touches your spirit and brings you peace.

Ten Random Things About Me:
1. I love my family so much! I thank God, every day, for them.
2. My girlfriends keep me sane! I've always been blessed with the presence of loving, strong women in my life. I know the difference between acquaintances and true friends and honor all that these amazing women add to my world.
3. Larry and I went to high school together, but didn't know each other back in the 1970's. How cool is it that we ended up married?
4. My favorite "career", before Peace Full Home and Kay McLane Design, was as the C.O.O. of a chain of retail stores. I did the buying, led the management team, designed stores, did outside consulting work and managed the financials. I learned a lot there and had wonderful experiences that helped make me who I am today.
5. Bacon and cheese are my "crisis mode" foods and cabernet is the wine of queens (and writers)!
6. I love writing "To Do" lists—even when I never get everything crossed off.
7. I watch nothing with violence—which eliminates a heck of a lot of media (including some movies my grandchildren are old enough to watch).
8. If it were up to me my kitchen would always be photo shoot ready and immaculate. I love to entertain, but I really don't like to cook. When we have parties, Larry's usually the one doing food prep and I'm the one making the "Ta Da!" happen. I even enlist girlfriends help me shine the glassware with vinegar.
9. I LOVE organization. I stress organize. I happy organize. I dream up new ways to organize!
10. I am a glass-half-full person. I got here that way. That certainly doesn't mean that I don't have "off" days, or that I walk around with a perpetual grin on my face, but I genuinely love life and truly understand what's important—God, family, friends, faith, love and, of course, peace.

Life Enrichment/Life Enhancement
Sometimes we all need a different perspective—a new way of looking at a situation that's challenging, or a mentor to walk alongside us when we don't feel like we "have it all together". So, what's the difference between "enrichment" and "enhancement"?
Enrichment occurs when we purposely add what's valuable to us. What that is depends on who we are. For some people things of a material nature may be what they desire, but I prefer to help people who choose to add non-tangible (but incredibly important) life-giving aspects to their lives. For example, "I finally feel like I have a positive sense of self-worth", or "I'm now able to walk away from my attachment to possessions because I've enriched my life with spirituality".
Enhancement is raising something to a higher level—taking something that's already positive and "growing" that experience exponentially. For example, "my state of peacefulness was enhanced by the beautiful sunset, that I finally noticed, outside my window" or "I truly now appreciate the gifts of friendship that I've always had".
Together, enriching and enhancing give us the opportunity to create a peace-full experience of living.

Specializing in interior design, redesign, and organization, my goal is to create homes that fit my clients' lifestyles and personal tastes, while creating timeless looks. Whether you lean toward a soothing neutral palette or a home filled with rich, saturated color, I want your life experiences to inspire you to transform your home into your personal sanctuary. One of my mantras is "love it or use it" and I truly believe that most of us could use a little less "stuff" and a lot more "breathing space" in our homes.
In home staging, we create a space that potential buyers can connect with during their first visit to your home. It involves preparing your home, and its contents, for sale with a special emphasis on presentation and appearance. Staging involves things of an aesthetic nature, as opposed to mechanical or functional improvements. It's part decorating, part psychology and mostly marketing. It is creating the maximum appeal possible and putting your home's best foot forward.
I have over 30 years of experience in the home decor business and write, teach and love to work with clients and students to help them realize their goals. I am passionate about design, obsessive about details, believe in simplicity with beauty, and aspire to grow peace wherever I go.
